Arrived in the Eastern Sierras

Ansel Adams and others have done extensive photography in the Eastern Sierras, an area on the east side of the California mountains where Yosemite, Sequoia and other parks are located. I have always heard it is a big deal to come here for fall colors so I made the journey this year. However, there is far more here than just the fall colors. I got here last Thursday (came by myself this time) and have been scouring all the backroads, sideroads, and other places possible looking for images to create. I even snuck up into the northeast corner of Yosemite for a lake sunset photo. This morning I was down south at the Alabama Hills area. This is a desert area with huge boulder formations that have been used as a location for many movies, from old John Wayne flicks to Gladiator, Star Trek and Iron Man. I was there to photograph Mount Whitney but although it was hidden by a misty fog, the rising sun lit up the fog and made a rainbow that lasted for over an hour. I kept moving among the boulders looking for better photos and wound up a mile from the car. I plan to go back again to get that shot of Mount Whitney. The first winter storm of the season has hit and 40 miles north of here the roads require chains. Hopefully, that all gets cleared up by Friday when I have to head back up to Reno.  If you come to California, don't talk on a cell phone while driving.  They get you for that.
