Mount Whitney and Mono Lake

The weather cleared Tuesday and my second attempt to photograph Mount Whitney through Mobius Arch was sucessful. This was great as I wasn't going to have another chance as my schedule had me leaving the southern region of the Eastern Sierras and heading north that same morning. One of the big photographic attractions of the area is Mono Lake, which is the only place like it in the world. I met a photographer from Germany there today. This lake has several areas with Tufa formations, a mineral that has been left standing after the level of the water has dropped over the eons. There many ways to photograph the formations and I have been wanting to do it for a couple of years. As usual, sunrise and sunset are the best times. I was fortunate enough to have a calm morning Thursday and was rewarded with some great reflections. I get one more chance Friday morning and will try to get there well before sunrise to try a little light painting. This is a technique that I am new to so we will see how it goes. After that I'm on up to Lake Tahoe for one night before heading home on Saturday. Just a little over a day left but plan to make the most of it.
