I wish the photos could accurately portray the amazingbeauty and experience of the slot canyons. They are so cool which is why we also dedicated Tuesday and Wednesday tothe Antelope Canyons, which are the star attraction of the area.
Upper Antelope Canyon has become famous because of unusualwith small openings above the canyon that result in beams of light that areaccentuated by dust in the air.  The canyonsare on Navajo land and they control access through a tour system that crams waytoo many people into Upper Antelope Canyon at the same time.  It is controlled chaos inside with each tourguide taking his group from spot to spot, shoulder to shoulder with othergroups.  Setting down the tripod andshooting over people’s heads to capture the formations with long exposures inthe semi-dark canyon is a real challenge.  At one point, I thought one guy was going tocome to blows with one of the guides.  This was our second trip here and as much as Ienjoy this canyon I also can’t wait to finish our two hours and get out of it.
Lower Antelope Canyon is far less visited because it doesn’thave the light beams.  However, mostphotographers will tell you it has more interesting formations to photographand I agree.  You are allowed only twohours in the canyon and cannot go back in again the same day.  Keeping Jason moving through the canyon so wewould finish it before our time expired was the biggest challenge I faced.  We arrived at 8am when they opened and wewere almost the only ones there.  It waswonderful after dealing with the crowd at Upper Antelope.
The six photos with Jason’s name are from Upper Antelope andthe other six are mine from Lower Antelope. Thursday morning calls for one last effort at sunrise here beforeheading south to the Grand Canyon.  Theforecast is for thunderstorms which could give some dramatic skies at thecanyon.  Keeping the fingers crossed.
